History of Medicine Highlights of the New York Academy of Medicine’s Rare Book Room

Join us for an intimate tour of the rare book room at the New York Academy of Medicine, where you will have the opportunity to see highlights from the collections from the 15th century forward.

Visitors will have the opportunity to see treasures of our collection, including an illuminated 15th century manuscript of Guy de Chauliac’s great work on surgery, beautifully illustrated atlases of anatomical illustration, a 17th European anatomical manikin, and other highlights.

The New York Academy of Medicine is home to one of the most significant historical libraries in medicine and public health in the world, safeguarding the heritage of medicine to inform the future of health.

  • This tour will last approximately 90 minutes
  • Space is limited and advance registration is required
  • The building is wheelchair accessible, with an entry ramp and an elevator
